Halal Standard and halal food standardization has shaped into a flourishing profitable and commercialized industry. One of the major reason for this is the guidelines of Islam in adopting halal food. Quran and Hadith clearly state the instructions in following certain principles while eating and choosing to eat. In Islmaic Civilization the history of Halal Food standardization goes long back to the times of ottomans where they used to stamp permissible foods. In contemporary times not only religious guidelines work in preparing the guidelines for halal standardization but also technicalities involving this process are taken into considerations. Although the standardization of different Muslim countries differ due to the difference of Fiqhi approaches and thought paradigm still this difference is not more than 5%. This article sheds light on the concept of permissible food in Islam and the importance of standardization. It also surveys the history of halal food standardization and global certificate institutions working for it.
