Abstract

The report of single sahabi (Khabar e wahid)The discussion of khabar e wahid is one of the important discussions in I’lm e usul e hadith and I’lm e usul e fiqh for the majority of the traditions narrated to us belong to this category and a large number of Islamic laws have also been derived from the same i.e. Khabar e wahid .Majority of the scholars of all the Islamic schools of thought have agreed to this definition of Khabar e wahid“It is that report which doesn’t attain the level of tawatur (recurrence or frequency) in its reporting and which doesn’t cause certainty”. The report of a single sahabi as well as the report of two or three sahabis may also be called khabar e wahid.Legal effect of khabar e wahid the schlars are of the view that if any law is derived from khabar e wahid it will be a cvalid law. All the schools of thought are having consensus over the authenticity of khabar e wahid and they do act in accordance with it and they take help therefrom in the derivation of laws. Khabar e wahid causes only speculation and not the certainty about the actual law. Its legitimacy has been derived from Quran, Sunnah, Ijma’ (Consensus), the conduct of sahabah, and the Logic or rationale.
