Abstract

One of the distinguishing features of Islamic society is that it gives complete freedom to every person to adopt any halal profession for economic betterment. It is a duty of every Muslim to take up a dignified profession in order to earn a living. This was the effect of Prophetic customs that his Companions made hard work their motto in different fields. General occupations of labor in Prophetic Era include Doctors, Calligraphers and home decorators, Goldsmith, Blacksmith, Carpenter, Water sellers, Tailors, Travel guides, Farmers, Oil and Ghee sellers, Cattle grazing, Perfume manufacturing and selling, Cloth making and selling profession, International Trade, Arms making, Bread makers,  Barbers, Auctioneers, Butchers, Burden bearer labor, stationers and wood cutters. Some companions were offering their services for Government. However in every occupation the Prophetic principles and guidelines were followed.
