Abstract

    The Qur'an has used the word difference of opinion (taffaruq) for ideological sectarianism. The texts of Quran and Sunnah clearly established that sectarianism is forbidden and it is against national unity. But the question is what does really mean by difference of opinion (taffaruq)? Are all types of differences come under sectarianism? Is every kind of disagreement and difference is forbidden in Islam, or is it any kind of difference which is allowed and appreciated in Islam?

In order to find out the answer to this question, we have to look into the interpretation of the verses that have been revealed to condemn and prohibit sectarianism, so that the reality of prohibition of sectarianism should be cleared in the light of the context of revelation, explanation of these verses.
