Abstract

Abstract

Islam permits warfare only under unavoidable circumstances and prescribes clear ethical principles and regulations. These include helping the oppressed, responding proportionately to aggression, protecting non-combatants, honoring treaties, and refraining from injustice. Islam introduced these laws much earlier 14th century ago to be precise. Islam altogether rejected the traditional principles of warfare of that time and it offered a new set of rules based upon moral values. If these principles are neglected during wars, the tales of inhumane atrocities are nothing new. Even in the modern era, the laws of war are blatantly violated, and the man-made rules remain mere adornments of paper. Humanity is ruthlessly humiliated. This is precisely why Islam has bound ware fare to strict principles and rules. Moreover, Shariah has clearly and comprehensively outlined the laws of peace, specifying under what conditions and with whom peace should be made.

This research paper examines the recent escalation between Pakistan and India, which once again brought both nations to the brink of war, through the lens of Islamic principles of warfare. The purpose of this analytical study is to assess whether these principles were upheld or violated during the conflict. The study aims to offer a comparative evaluation of Islamic teachings and the actual conduct of both parties, with the broader goal of encouraging future policy-making grounded in Islamic values.
