Abstract

It is clear that the that the texts described in the Quran and Sunnah are limited, while due to the passage of time, many new problems arise which are not in the Quran and Sunnah. Islam has formulated a principle to solve these problems, that is Ijtihad, its door is always open, so that every human being can be guided.

If a learned person solves a problem individually, it is called individual Ijtihad. Ijtihad can also take the form of consensus; this has been discussed in detail in following Article.

   The article includes the definition of Ijtihad and collective ijtihad. The evidence of collective Ijtihad has been discussed from the Qur'an, Hadiths and jurisprudence. How the Companions have done collective Ijtihad, in this way collective Ijtihad has also been presented as a brief history.

In this way, the characteristics that must be possessed by the Mujtahid of collective Ijtihad have been described. In this way, the possible cases have been discussed as to which institutions can become institution of collective ijtihad in today's era.
